Domino’s New Recipe for Disaster?
Social media marketing is the 2010 version of the hula hoop. Everybody wants it, but not everybody knows how to use it. Some companies, particularly those who don’t understand marketing, are joining social media sites without knowing what they are getting into. And while the positive aspects of social media marketing are obvious, even seasoned veterans in the marketing field are struggling to assess its latent risk.
Have you seen the latest Domino’s Pizza commercial? In it, Domino’s actually acknowledges customer criticisms of their pizza (“It tastes like cardboard”… “It has no flavor”…etc). Ostensibly, Domino’s plan was to openly address its faults, revamp its pizza recipe, and wow its critics with its overhauled product. Of course this all goes well in the purchased television commercial space. But Domino’s Facebook account tells a different story.
