John Mayer Moves Forward
If the outspoken musician is a precursor to Hollywood trends, expect Tumblr to attack the world in Twitter-like fashion. In a recent John Mayer blog, titled “Twitter Isn’t ‘Over’, I’m Over It.”, he tells why he’s leaving Twitter and going to Tumblr. In so many words, he’s fed up with the value that Twitter offers.
As someone who spends a majority of my day on the web, I have the same concerns. My job requires learning and understanding every resource in social media. I have pinpointed the value of Facebook, LinkedIn and blogs, but Twitter has menial, if any marketing worth. I can’t, in good conscience, recommend Twitter to any business. Twitter’s capabilities can be achieved in other tools; actually, they are better through other applications.
This is where Tumblr.com comes in. According to their site, “Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything. Post text, photos, quotes, links, music and videos, from your browser, phone, desktop, email or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors, to your theme’s HTML.” Maybe quoting their own website isn’t the most impartial way of analyzing a company, but from my research, there is no better way to describe it.
If you haven’t checked out Tumblr.com, you are missing out. It’s a great hybrid of social media tools that will enhance your time. Enjoy.
Is JM on to something or do you think Twitter is here to stay?

Tumblr is a great way to organize not just text, but images. I like to use it to keep track of inspirational pictures I find. It’s a very intuitive way of blogging and gaining information of all types. Humanizing software and social media tools seem to be the next trend in technology, so I am glad Tumblr is recognizing this.
The only problem I have with Tumblr is that it is difficult to leave comments on your friends posts without reblogging the whole post. It’s an interesting website, but I believe there is still room for improvement on it.
